As a relative begginer, what do people cosider a good opening for black.
I am more happy with my white opening,i cant seem to settle for black.
thanks
Need more information: Do you like to attack, do you like to play positionally, what style do you play or wish to play?
Look for openings that you can drive the positions, get in familiar situations for you: French, Caro-Kahn, Petroff, etc. Stay away from the Sicilian until you are really ready to devote a LOT of time to learning a LOT of opening theory.
Billy Voltaire
Scandinavian (Center-Counter) Defense. Easy to play, easy to learn, it contests the center immediately and ensures that black will have no great problems ahead. after 1. e4 d5 2. e4 takes d5, don't recapture with queen takes d5, play the Marshall variation, Knight-f6, you'll have a good game. It's a snap.

I like postional play the best, rather than straight away looking to attack.
A way to study openings is to read from a book, and/or games from databases then play some friendly games (mabe with time limit-blitzs) with friends or againts PC to understand them and after to play them at tournamets.
Sicilian is a way to play more sharply especially when you have to win, Dragon and Clasical are my favorites
