I don't know how RHP ratings work. I play here for fun, sometimes well sometimes not well. The highest rated player I beat here was ...[text shortened]... en get invited for games by players who aren't members, maybe their ratings are less reliable.
thanks for the clarification🙂

i learned chess as a kid and went to tournaments and all that and i was pretty good for my age. i didn't play for 9 years after my parents split though. my chess skills were all lost and i had to start from scratch. i've risen from 1150 to 1600 in a year and i find that very impressive with how much dedication i've put into my game. i do think age matters not in the sense that people can have high ratings at such a young age. it isn't hard to believe that a kid can have a high elo when he starts young because their brain is like a sponge and sucks up everything it sees. an older person has a harder time because his brain is pretty much done developing in a sense that its mature. i dont think iq matters as much as pattern recognition. my friend is a genius and is in all honors classes but hes a dunce when it comes to chess even though i've been teaching him a whole lot he doesn't seem to ever learn the concepts.

that could be because he doesn't want to become good at chess, I don't disagree with you about high IQ not having to do anything with it though.

Can't understand that. My highest BCF grade has been about 153 so why are you graded below me on RHP?

My IQ is over 85 too!

From the look of your graph, your rating took a while to climb, and you were around 200 points less than me at the number of games I have played. Meaning, statistically I am better than you both OTB and here.

My highest BCF rating was 169 I seem to recall, back when I played for Cosham. However, having said all this, I think south coast ratings are relatively uninflated compared to London ratings - I think for instance a 153 down there would be closed to a 165 up here. I base that upon how I did in the Portsmouth Congress this year,

Btw, why is it that everyone on this forum likes to dispute any kind of achievement or claim of ability?

I made the mistake of issuing about 100 open invites at the beginning to get games under my belt and they were accepted by a lot of (forgive me) patzers so although I won them all my rating just would not climb. In fact it dropped for the first 20 games.

Once I started entering a few tournaments my opposition got better so my rating started to climb.

Don't know why people are so disparaging. Think they imagine anyone half way decent must be up to something iffy!

More exactly: they assume anyone better than them is cheating.

Vanity, vanity.

I *wish* anyone better than me on the internet was cheating, as then I'd be the best real player in the world. But alas, I know the truth. I'm not even in the Top 10.

nah. it's just that people claim to be a lot stronger than they really seem to be all the time. it's a rare occasion that someone really is, and that makes people suspicious. like I know jusuh to be a strong player, but many (most?) clearly don't believe it. you'll have to earn recognition here, no matter who you are. action speaks louder than words.

But I couldn't care less.
