It was a great tournament, very well organised but a very intense continuous 11 rounds of chess.
I started well with 3 out of 5 then the moment I had been waiting for came - a game against a master. I played FM Jose Collados 2357 as white (who also has one GM norm) so I banged out the Nimzovich-Rossolimo attack on a prayer and it went something like:
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 g6 4.Bxc6 dxc6 5.O-O Bg7 6.c3 Nf6 7.Re1 O-O 8.d3 e6 9.Be3 Nd7 10.Nbd2 a5 11.a4 b6 12.Nf1 Ba6 13.h3 Qc7 14.Ng3 Rfe8 15.Nh2 Rab8 16.d4 cxd4 17.cxd4 c5 18.Qg4 Nf6 19.Qh4 h5 20.Nf3 (sorry can't rememebr more) I got an incredible attack and he resigned before I mated him. I think I was so hyped up with adrenaline after that I then proceeded to play like a complete and total patzer for the rest of it getting only a half point - finishing on 4.5 out of 11.
I lost three times trying to smash the English against 2100+ players so I need some repair work there (god how I hate that opening 🙁 )
All in all was a very good day - would have liked a GM game but hey ho!
