I very much doubt it.
Lee Davis is only rated about 2000 FIDE.
I dont know... Sea Devil once said a player called Salhye was his son. Salhye is an annogramm for Ashley, and there is an Ashley Davis enrolled in the same chess club as Lee Davis.

Games are underway now - Stuart Conquest is having to deal with a wretched c3 sicillian on board 3 - I hope he smashes his opponent up good and proper!

Jeff Horner is a very tough opponent. Pretty rough deal for Conquest to have play him as Black in round 1.

Why are the pairings done in such a strange way? It's like we have the top quartile paired against the second quartile, and then the third quartile paired against the bottom quartile. This will have the effect of having lots of weaker players with 1/1 after the first round. Why is that a good thing?

Perhaps this is what is known as a deaccelerated swiss?

Or maybe it could just be for spectator purposes - to have some close games between masters in round 1, rather then the usual routine of almost everyone thrashing a lower rated opponent.

I don't think that we can be sure about the idendity of Seadevil with Lee Davis. And since some people infer improper behaviour it could be a real defamation problem.

I am 100% sure that seadevil in Lee Davis, but I agree he shouldn't have been named directly in this thread.

I was trying to imply it subtly (yes, I know it's not my strong point) but that's difficult to do in a thread where anyone can add comments.

Gawain Jones has got quite a nice position with the benko gambit at quite an early stage in the game.

Jones looks to have an overwhelming position after move 20, and he's almost an hour up on the clock!

You can buy a wooden pen or whatever from Jones' parents here:

If he wins the British Championships it will probably quadruple in value overnight.

I think Ne2 might be whites best move for 21, although g5 seems to win a piece. I think if he comes out an exchange down, white will be happy.

It's only just come from there. Isn't the White knight on h4 trapped?

Edit: Damn you edited your post to point out that g5 wins the knight on h4.

Edit: How about a sac on g6, giving up a knight for two pawns? Looks ropey, but what else can White do?

I am sure the game wont finish just yet. I have a recollection of greame buckley playing most of the game a rook down against nick pert last year.
