Bacrot had apparently been playing poker so the humiliating defeat can be explained that way.
Grischuk has been playing lots of poker as well...

Adams inched closer to the next round with a draw with White today.

Judit Polgar managed to conjure up an attack from thin air and took one back from Bareev. She needs to win the last one as well to force it into a tie-breaker.

Carlsen won as well to draw level in his match with Aronian. I've never been a big fan of Carlsen, but he's shown a lot of guts in this match.

Go Judit!

I was just reading http://globalchess.eu/main.php and noticed that Gata Kamsky doesn't have a second. That makes his first round results even more impressive. Way to go.

Also three cheers for Judit, I'm just sad that two of my favorite players had to go at it in the first round.

Judit's win was a blast from the past. She has some pretty good seconds and I suspect her plan was to steer clear of Bareev's preparation. Kamsky and Adams are playing well despite having no seconds.

The last round is already under way and in Shirov-Adams the Queens are already off in the Petroff by move 8. I hope it doesn't become like Kramink-Leko

Polgar's opening choice is interesting because she has to win with black to force a playoff.

Edit: Kasidhanov vs Gelfand has ended its a draw. I was surprised when watching to see on the right, Garry Kasparov is here. He is kibitzing the games.

Wow, it looked really bad for Magnus, but Aronian made a mistake, and it ended in a perpetual! Let's see what happens tomorrow!

The first tiebreak games (rapid games with 25/10) have been played:
Aronian - Carlsen 1-0
Kasimdzhanov - Gelfand 0-1
Shirov - Adams 1-0

The next games start in a bit less than 10 minutes.

After three games, Adams and Kasimdzhanov are out. Carlsen needs to win the fourth game (which will begin soon) to stay in the match.

Incredible... Magnus just won a completely drawn game!!! So now it'll be blitz...

Aronian won both blitz games. What a shame - but it was a great fight!

So the matches starting on Wednesday will be:
Aronian vs Shirov
Leko vs Bareev
Rublevsky vs Grischuk
Gelfand vs Kamsky

Who do you have?

Aronian vs Shirov: "Snore"ronian unless he keeps missing one movers. Nerves? Tragically another person who has beaten Kramnik in a classical match falls.

Leko vs Bareev: "Count Drawcula" in a blowout. Sadly, another person who has drawn Kramnik in a classical match advances.

Rublevsky vs Grischuk: Grishuk. Should be exciting if they don't head for the speed games. Then again, maybe that will make it exciting.

Gelfand vs Kamsky: Gelfand. Gelfand has had Kamsky's number in the past. Sadly, another person who has beaten Kramnik in a classical match fails to advance. Happily, another person who has beaten Kramnik in a classical match (they both have!) must advance.

too bad Magnus still sucks. I wonder will he ever win anything big...
