Wow, I wasn't expecting the sessions with Kasparov to make this much of an effect on his openings. How many times do we see the scotch in super gm level?

a very exciting game (played today in Pearl Spring): Carlsen sacs a pawn for open files and activity, leko returns it with a whole piece sacrifice later on.

Okay what's white threatening, please? Or is it the passed pawns?

Very soon, GM's are going to forget how to mate. No wonder they miss mate in one's.

10.f4 looks like a pure positional sacrifice, but 9.0-0 is more of a trap, if 9...Qxe4? 10.Nb5! (c7 and the bishop). looks dangerous after Bxe3 but it seems to work.

Sorry I meant the final position.

White is up a piece and has two unmatched pawns on the Queenside, Black's counterplay has gone, that's a rationale you must be able to follow. 😉

I thought as much. But what about 44...Qxh4+!!! Now that's a sac even Fritz12 wouldn't see.

I'm pretty sure it will consider the option

Big deal. I beat Mickey Blue with the Scotch and I did not need
GM Kasparov to help me. And I know how to checkmate.

Looks like Gary has not got around to showing Magnus that one yet.

That move must be timed just right.

In blitz at just the right moment its a great move.

I really like this game. I keep playing through it, trying to work out how Carlsen built up such a strong position from what looked like a completely spurious pawn sacrifice.

Today Magnus played d4 and won Topalov in KID. This boy is monster!

It reminds me of the unclear pawn/piece sacs for activity
Kasparov of the 80's played.

You cannot see anything tangible just a position full of ideas.

The Knights on e7 & g6 don't do Black any favours.

I bet that position was on the training room table and the
two of them picked it clean.

Would be great to watch them two to analysing a position.
