The news on the tournament homepage are always a pleasure to read.
"Since then, Wang Yue defensed tenaciously, exchanging pieces and simplifying the situation in order to draw by scarifying bishop to two pawns." (http://www.chess-pearlspring.com/www/chess_pk/2009/en/dsdt_mb_a39091007100577.htm)

Can anyone explain that scarifying technique to me?

The Bishop can only scarify the pawns if the pawns are Catholic and have spent time as choir boys. Pawns of any other faith are immune to this effect.

Hey I'm sure Carlsen is a big hero in your city.

Magnus won his last game today, has won the tournament 2 1/2 points ahead of Topalov, and has crossed the 2800 border! (http://chess.liverating.org/) Apparently he is the first 18 y.o. to do so.

Well, he's all over the Norwegian media, but most people don't care about chess. So my impression is that most people have heard about him, but they may not even remember the name. If he were from my town, it would probably be different.

What an amazing performance by Carlsen, 5/5 with White, beat every other competitor at least once and a 3016 rating performance!

I hope Kasparov stays with him for a while, who knows how good Carlsen could become?

Here's his last round game:

25. ... Ne4? was a horrible blunder for such a strong player to make.

I agree, just an unbelievable run by Carlsen and some very nice games.
