It's a solid opening that was developed by 2 amateur players and later championed by top grandmasters..it has a reputation for being dull, but that isn't always true. It can turn into a highly tactical game or a slow positional one. I play it sometimes in blitz, it's a fun opening

In my limited experience it is slow and boring. That said, many masters use it now and again - one or two regularly.

me too. i like the resulting positions for black better then in the sicilian, and use the caro exclusively against 1.e4 with good results
