Black aims to suck all the life out of the game. For this reason, and because Satan played it in a blitz match with the Creator, it is often called the "Devil's Opening." Yasser Seiriwan and Anatoly Karpov have both played it extensively, causing considerable grief for the likes of Garry Kasparov.

Black on move 2 challenges whites center, but unlike the french, he does not block in his light squared bishop. It is probably the opening most likely to draw.

Advantages of Caro-Kann Defense:

o Doesn’t require a large investment of time for study

o Eliminates most of the chances for Black being rolled in under 20 moves

o Allows Black to take advantage of White’s poor pawn structure in the endgame

I call it the ultimate defense for black if he is looking for a draw. It's very drawish.

What?

It's a drawish opening meaning most of games result in a draw.

yes, but if you are black, draw is the "ultimate" solution..?
The GM saying is , Win with white, draw with black.

So it depends, are you are a GM then you would be happy with a draw as Black, but for a 1500 player to get a draw with black on here isn't great. He should play for a win.

Against 1500 players, drawish openings like the Caro-Kann, the French, and the Russian all work to give black a decisive advantage when white attempts to force things.

Only 1 problem with that, the french isn't drawish unless white enters the exchange variation.

O, I get decent positions as white against that. Not winning, but slight advantage.

Whatever, play what you feel comfortable with and worry about the results after.
