How should White, to play, proceed?

Even in my current state of mind, I think I can get this:

1. QxN, QxQ
2. g8/N+, K moves
3. NxQ with a won game

1. QxN ...QxQ
2. f8N+ ...K moves
3. NxQ with a pretty easy win.

You were seconds faster than me, but the pawn is on the f-file, not the g file 😀

Why shouldn't White promote the Pawn to a Queen?

Because promoting to a Queen gives a draw at best (as far as I can see). The knights fork leaves white a full piece ahead with an easily winning endgame, and the idea is to win, unless I'm missing something.

Is it obvious that I grew up with descriptive notation? ;-)

No, you're not.

1. QxKt QxQ. [If 1...Q-Q1; 2. Q-K8 and the Pawn may be shepherded home.] 2. P-B8=Kt ch. followed by 3. KtxQ. White wins a Knight.

It's not clear to me that White will win, even if a full piece up.

He now has a better chance of doing so.

The win should be easy enough for White. It is like a K+P endgame. White gains the opposition at will, thanks to waiting moves by the Knight. Slowly but surely, the black pawns must fall.
