Along with Otis, I also am considering gettting Chessbase 9. I've never had chessbase before and I'll have to get a DVD reader in the old computer to install it. Anybody out there who has Chessbase have an opinion on its value. There's one or two other databases out there, but I like Fritz and Chessbase seems to be a good coupling.
I have chessbase 8, only because it was given to me by a friend who bought a Mac and couldn't use it anymore. I know it has alot more features than the online databases that are free, but I really don't know what value it represents for a player below expert or master strength. I certainly don't know how to take advantage of it's features in a way that will be meaningful to my improvement, at least not anymore than any other database. Would welcome any comments on this though.
