Surprised to see Irena is back in a major women's tournament. I thought she had "retired". She's in the Cairns Cup sponsored by the "deep pockets" Sinquefield family. Her first game was a draw vs. Kosteniuk who is a heavyweight (when she isn't in a slump, as she has been recently...

@Duchess64

I saw Irina give an interview a couple of years ago..she stated that she no longer was active in competitive tournaments...BUT as we know she
's entered in the Cairns Cup...she had a draw today vs. Ju Wenjun, the present Women's World Champion. at 11am you can see it live at uschesschamps-dot-com Seirawan and Shahade commentating..

I think I read that somewhere as well.

No time to think about that now though. Many hours of study remaining and many defeats to endure at the hands of Chessmaster 10K before Memorial Day. Back boot camp! 😳

You'll be glad to know that the Cairns Cup prize money is as follows:
1. $45,000
2. $35,000
3. $25,000
Even the last place finisher gets $6K, which is way too generous..
