Originally posted by ivan2908Among my 2009 chess resolutions is to limit online blitz to five games per day, which means I'll very rarely be found on FICS, my third choice for blitz. So far this year: 0 blitz games. I am playing (and planning to win) a G/10 OTB event at chess club this week. It may exceed five rounds.
I don't even want to log in to FICS. I feel it will be a disaster. How many games do you play seriously before you lose your concentration ? (in one session ?) I think 3 on daily basis is enough ?
I can focus for twenty games in a row, or for none. It depends on other factors--coffee, bourbon, sex, ...
I'm a non smoker/drinker, but I do love Coca Cola. 🙂
My limit is around 6 or 7 hours of nonstop 3 0 and 1 0.
I don't do that often, but after I do, I am drained.
I begin to see pieces and positions even when I am lying down hours later. 🙂
I usually play until I start losing to stupid mistakes, or overlooking two movers. There isn't much point once that begins.
Blitzes are like that. I just reached my highest ranking ever (1111) by defeating a 1750ish rated player, but it turns out this was his second game. Sometimes you'll find the 'finger' command very interesting.
Even so, you are right. I will defeat a 1200 or 1300, then turn around and lose to a 900. Blitzes are like that I guess. I play 10 0 games mostly, but they are still considered blitzes. My rating says I'm better than over 3 000 players. I'm pretty happy with that since it wasn't too long ago I was better than a hundred or so.
