I just wanted to give DNCS a try 🙂
They probably don't advertise it enough,'cause it really looks neat.I can't see any reason for people not wanting to play there.
Anybody who wanted to become a member of the DeepNet Chess
Server for free can Register now here for free :

A good interface for playing bughouse is Thief 1.1

You can download it here if you like:
http://www.thief-interface.com/

Or Winboard downloadable here:
http://www.tim-mann.org/chess.html

I am working now more on the server code to integrate a Tourney system directly into the server and other features.

It would be nice to see that that server grows - we have invested much of our time there programming new features.

So if you like give it a try ->

Just curious ... how does a free chess server make money besides web page ads, selling email lists ???

I like this server more than FICS, so anyone on RHP who wants to play somewhere join this server, and we can play some chess RT...😀

We run it for free and have no interest in making money with it .
And we def. don't use the email for any other purpose than for the chess server. But you must supply a working email addr to get your password and to confirm the registration request. We dont like to have users with an invalid email addr. on our server.

I prefer correspondence chess (long live RHC!), but if I feel like 5 minutes of mayhem then http://www.tim-mann.org/ics.html has a list of Internet Chess Servers. Just login as guest and away you go.

Well, you could always kick the password back in the browser, use https if you feel the need , so there are ways of not asking for email addresses. Besides, email addresses come and go.

I run a mail server so I can have addrs that go away if I need .

foil:
Its a good idea to show the password directly in the browser after the confirmation request email is confirmed.

Yes Email addr. can be created and deleted after registering. But we need a valid email addr. The problem is that we have several commands which sends information to the email supplied by the user. For instance mailmoves etc .. You could also set a flag that all the messages send to your playerhandle are directly send to your email box -which is very usefull. And its annoying that all the email is returned to sender.

And to prevent that one creates and deletes an account there are too ways to check that the account is still valid from time to time.

But I think about a way to let players just register without an email addr. and to disable all email commands than.

Invanhoe: Sorry this was a bug in the register form -> You are not allowed to use
a white space in the playername. "hot pawn" is not allowed but "hotpawn".

I will change that asap. This is something that was on the todolist for the form .

I personally like both variants - correspondence and online chess.
If you like to play online games than you can go to
http://www.tim-mann.org/ics.html to look for a Internet Chess Server.

It would be nice if you select our DNCS Server there from time to time to play some games. 🙂
