Game One in the Ding v Gukesh W. C. Match.
Great game and I was rooting for White’s attack because of his
opening moves and was thinking this is going to a be a bloodbath.
However Ding did enough to put Gukesh off his stride and suddenly
he found his aggressive advanced pawns were targets. Even when I was
pretty sure Ding with best play was winning I was not too sure about it
because in the past 18 months Ding has had some wonderful positions
and let them slip into draws. I saw enough play for White to trip Black
up but Ding played like his old self and wrapped this one up.
A wonderful variation is in there which I show and then a few
RHP positions with players falling for the trick Ding avoided.
