I played him a few times, he is very good if he is not opening with 1. h4 2. a4 stuff.
Wouldn't he be a National Master? Not just a Master? 😕

It is true that there could be a minority of strong players at p1200 but the ones I have played are new to chess.

They are p1200s from CC here because they haven't played long games. There are a few p900s who have played a few long games and lost. From my point of view the blitz game with someone over 1500 is more interesting than that with a p1200 or a p900.

of course I do. but you're still just fooling yourself if you assume a 1500 CC is 1500 blitz. that's just a completely arbitrary assumption.

last march I was 1021 at ICC 5-minute blitz, and 1848 RHP. that's the kind of correlation you get comparing CC to blitz. I'm now at 1460 ICC 5-minute, but I didn't get any better before I started playing loads of blitz, no matter how well I did on CC or CTS.

none of the things that kill in CC work in blitz. they're just too subtle, and get masked by crass mistakes. and none of the things that work in blitz work in CC, because they're too much based on unsound threats, which can be refuted in the time allowed in CC. they're just two completely different games.

Yes, in blitz I get a lot of wins just by making my opponents think more than I have to, causing them to time out. Time is the most important difference between CC and blitz.

Hi - maybe you don't realise that those players with the board consisting of only 4 squares next to them are actually playing games - so the vast majority of those supposed ducks sitting round the pond are actually already playing at any given time
