I'm a d4 player. I am more comfortable with the games that 1 d4 produces, e.g. all indian defences, Queens Gambit. This is because I prefer solid games with lots of positional buildup, rather than the wild tactical games that 1 e4 brings. Occasionally I may play 1 e4, or transpose into an 1 e4 opening via 1 d4, e.g. 1 d4 c6, 2 e4 which transposes into the Caro-Kann.

thats my m.o. also, do you find it difficult to play this way? I prefer to sperate my black and white openings so as to get a firm grip or mindset on which color im playing with
I prefer e4. I tried c4. I am considering g3. No other move looks so good on paper as does e4. E4 is the best move ever? No. D4 is a solid move. I read somewhere that d4 was the best move. I just do not like the way d4 looks on paper. It does not matter what your move is if your King is not safe nor your Queen active.
Originally posted by TimmyToiletI read that you should have fun playing chess. The story is too long to tell, but it was stated by Bronstein. He played in a local chess club that had low rated players. He could have crushed their King and their spirits, but he just played them some fun games. I am considering playing some fun games. F4 is one of the fun openings I am looking at. I have already played 2. Ne2 then 3. f4. I might even play 1. d4 sometime. Try f4. You might like it.
AH! Curse f4!
