What is your opinion on this opening?(1.e5 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.b4) I have adopted it on occasion, and when I won it was conclusive, and when I lost, likewise. I was just wondering what the general opinion is on it.

I have never played it or saw games with it but I think it is too risky. I think 2 pawns for a classical pawn enter is too big a price. Also blacks bishop is nicely placed (or thats what I know to my zero knowleedge of what the evans gambit is)

I used to play it and had reasonable success especially OTB. One thing you have to be careful of is not following through. You can't play the Evan's and expect to win in the endgame.

Nigel Short is currently the highest BCF rated player at 265 so you're unlikely to encouter it.

And to think I play him on the 28th.

kasparov beat anand with it and shirov has beaten timman in less than 28 moves with the evans. it's a lot of fun.

I agree with XanthosNZ. you can work up a pretty strong attack with the Evans, but you have to immediately capitalize on your early advantages. otherwise, the tide turns on you and the endgame becomes a painful ordeal.
