No matter how you look at it, chess will never be cool. In America, chess carries with it all the social status of bird watchers. Chess players are generally looked upon as nerdy, acne faced geeks that play a game designed for Communists. While this is often far from the truth, chessplayers will always play the game because they find it interesting...not because it's popular. 😏
I'm not convinced of that, co workers of mine may have had the Nerdy impression, but I have taught 2 of them how to play. Now Noon hour lunch breaks include OTB Chess. The others, have shown an interest. And 1 girl that works with us is German, yes not from North America, but she is reguarded as very intelligent by her co-workers, and she loves chess. I think people are coming around, the internet has helped expose many different people to the great game of chess. I am not starting an argument , but I do believe chess players are more accepted then ever before.
