between 2 grandmasters in the early 1900's
1.d4 Nf6
2.Nd2 e5
3.dxe5 Ng4
4.h3 Ne3
White resigns.
if white plays fxe3 then black plays Qh4+ then white is forced to play
g3 and black wins Qxg3#.if white doesnt play fxe3 he loses his queen.
what a superb finish.

I suspect that would only happen in correspondance chess!

I think the story behind this game is something like this:

White e2e4
Black b7b6 and whatever you move I respond with Bb7(conditional move, often used in corr chess)
White Bf1a6 and you must as you said answer Bc8b7
Black Bc8b7 but I don't like it
White Ba6xb7
Black Resign 1-0

Something like that. For clarity I'd present this way:

1. e4
1. ... b6 and 2. ... Bb7 to anything
2. Ba6 Bb7 3. Bxb7
1-0

Didn't Fischer play games where he was black and it went 1. c4 1-0?

Probably. Maybe not a true contest, but still legit.

Well, if you're going to count games where one player doesn't turn up, then there are lots of even shorter games than 1.c4 1-0

Yea, I remember going to a chess tournament, and on the next board (3) was a very low-rated guy who'd been matched up with a Class A player. The Class A never turned up.

As the flag fell, we congratulated and he said, "Yea, I know, I thought he had me for a minute there".

I think Spassky won the 2nd game in Reykjavik in walkover.
Fisher didn't simply show up!

Too bad he didn't get a rating boost for his "victory". The same happend to me, but when you let the clock run for an hour, and you didn't even get a game, and no ratings boost- its annoying, not victorious.
