Sorry AThousandYoung...That is not correct either. We were not declaring ecomomic war. We were in affect telling people not to interfere in a bloody civil war on anyone's behalf. Now I ask you...What sort of advantage did Bobby Fischer's chess game present to either side of the equation. Also worth noting is his opponant, Boris Spassky. He was an equal part in the game and should also be brought up on charges also, right? Since Belgrade in 92, Boris Spassky has played chess in France, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, Monaco, the Czech Republic, Great Britian, Corsica, Denmark. Spassky is travels the globe like he's on the magical mystery tour and Fischer is a blurry photo on America's Most Wanted. As an American, I am appalled that my country, the freest country in the world, would allow this such injustice to stand. Its time for our government to walk away from this and let this man get married and live his life in peace, not rotting away in some prison cell.

I don't know the specifics of the situation. My basic feeling is if you break the law, it should generally be enforced. That's really the most I can contribute to this discussion unless I decide to look up the details.

The reason why Spassky wasn't breaking the law is because his country hadn't imposed sanctions. That's why Fischer broke the law and Spassky didn't. That's why Spassky shouldn't be brought up on charges.

The match legitimised the Milosevic regime. It gave that advantage to one side in the conflict.

Anyways, any intelligent human being knows the only reason why Fisher is being arrested is because he's in protest of the terrorist state of Isreal. The way Mossad is lurking around, corrupting and murdering around the globe, nobody is safe. I wouldn't be surprised if the FBI comes knocking on my door or some weird agent because I dared posted this and was critical of the terrorist created state I mentioned. And don't even start with the anti-semitism talk, because half of the world's Arabs are semites.

BTW, why is this topic in the chess section? Yes, it deals with a famous chess player, but that famous chess player is being arrested and prosecuted by a tyrannical neo right wing Christian fanatic government. This is politics, and belongs in the debates section.

That is not true.

The point about moving this topic is one of the few that I see we agree on, mate. I'll have to write that one down.

Huh? ALL of the world's Arabs are Semites. Did you, perhaps, mean half of the world's Muslims are Semites?

Best Regards,

Correct, sorry, my mistake. Yes, all Arabs are semites, and yes, half of the world's muslims are semites, so accusing Palestinians and those who understand their point of view as "anti-semites" just doesn't fly. . .
