Anybody thinking of buying Fritz 10. I've looked at the descriptions and don't see much of interest over Fritz 9. My only problem is my subscription ran out on fritz 9 and the new one for Playchess is 30+ dollars. I guessthey planned it that way. Anyhoo, anybody think they'll buy the new 10, and if so, why?

I'm doing just fine with Crafty and Rybka beta so I see no reason to buy this (and FICS). Then again, if my wife wants to buy it for me for Christmas, who am I to complain? 😀
If you are in the US and looking to get Fritz I'll share what I did.
I never had Fritz before so I waited until 10 came out to buy it...
chesshouse.com has it for $45 with $5 shipping (for me, USPS) I didn't see it any cheaper than that so I went to fill out the order form and got an odd error (I think it rejected my email because I use the +chesshouse@gmail.com identifier)
I called ChessBase USA and asked them what it would cost with shipping. They sell it for $54 with free shipping. I told them what I could get it for at chesshouse and they dropped the price to $50 w/ free shipping.
Orders: 1-800-524-3527 (Mon-Fri, 9:00 am to 5:pm EST);
This is a bit off topic but I didn't want to start another Fritz10 thread.
I ordered mine the other week hopefully I'll get it on wednesday. I've never had to pay for a subscription since I bought fritz 8 for some reason those accounts have lasted years.
Main reason to upgrade for me is bullet chess online. It appears there is a new function that allows you to filter out laggers.
At the Playchess engine room, I have been owning Fritz 10's left and right with Junior 10 and Rybka 2.2. I would say get a Chessbase engine though, because it comes with a good GUI, all sorts o training functions, and a year free of Playchess.com.However, if you aren't going to compete with the engine, get Fritz10.

Dude are you serious!? I must get Fritz10!
New chess server features: additional ranking lists, full rankings for all players, filters for challengers with bad Internet connections, new and simple video conference function, bullet lists in the engine room, animated global weather display, direct link to Google Earth.

Originally posted by cmsMasterEarly days in testing but Fritz 10 appears to be a fairly big improvement on F9. Rybka 2.2, however, is an absolute monster and comes with an "ultra tactical" experimental version/engine.

F10 may yet end up only a little bit higher than the (still free) Rybka 1 beta.

Impressing victory of Fritz 10 over Rybka 2.2 Beta

But I kept looking for the free Rybka 2.2 program and discovered that only the Rybka 1 beta is free. So who wants to pay for Rybka 2.2, a program that gets it's butt kicked by Fritz 10?

If you read:

You'll see that Rybka II (64 bit) is currently +14 =6 -0 against Fritz 10 according to the CEGT testers, who (many people will be aware) are one of the two most respected groups of testers in the business.
Originally posted by dottewellMost people, including myself, don't have a 64 bit operating system. So if you buy a 64 bit Rybka 2.2 it might run on your computer, but it'll run in 32 bit code. Also, people need to be aware that the tests are done with dual processor machines. How many people here have a dual processor computer?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Rybka 2.2 isn't a good program. It's just that a person has to pay money for it. So if they are going to shell out the bucks they need to know that the Rybka 2.2 tested will most likely not be the one that will be running on their computer.
There's other important factors too. People using Chessbase can click on a button that will transfer the game position into Fritz for analysis and play. And chess videos are already on the market that play GM's giving a lecture while Fritz shows the game. I'm certain any new program doesn't have those features.
