Everyone makes mistakes. Even the great ones.
The Alekhine Error.
The Noah's Ark Trap.
In the 1924 Book of the New York Tournemant Alekhine suggests
that 5...b5 6.Bb3 Nxd4 7.Nxd4 exd4 8.Qxd4 c5 9.Qd5 Be6 10.Qc6+ Bd7
11.Qd5 Be6 is a perpetual (12.Qc6+ Bd7 etc etc)
He missed 11...c4! which traps the Bishop.
It's called the Noah's Ark trap because it's as old 'as the Ark.'
Funnily enough Edward Winter says it would be unproductive pointing
out all the errors like this that appear in books...
...but worthwhile in the case of the great classics.
