No love for the Queen's Gambit... I guess the gambits have to suck to be "true" gambits. πŸ™

I've heard it's very dangerous if white knows his stuff & black makes any slight mistakes early on.
If I played 1.d4 I'd probably use it routinely against those who I play against (1400-1700) I think

Nothing wrong with a pawn in the center, an extra tempo & open lines for a pawn.

black to move

How about proper chess? One does not need to play gambits to "spice up" your games, you can play solidly and still get good exciting games.
Gambits are the result of intensive study as well; to say they aren't proper chess is a ridiculous statement.

The Queen's Gambit isn't really a gambit.

Well, wormwood is right, because white can regain the pawn after Qa5+ - it's probably called 'Gambit' because of the similarities it has to the King's Gambit.

Ithink that in this position white have dubious compensation for the pawn.
But black can avoid this position if they plays e5. I mean 1.d4 d5 2.e4 dxe4 3.f3 e5! or 1.d4 d5 2.e4 dxe4 3.Nc3 e5!. In both lines black is getting better position.

there is a player at my club who ALWAYS plays the BDG against me. EVERY time. im definately getting bored with it.

2 wins
1 loss
1 draw

i think im just gonna start playing 1...Nf6 against 1. d4
