greenpawn34. What can I say? What can anyone say? Looks like the chess Nestor who’s never tired of speaking a wise word to the ignorant and arrogant youth.
Streetfighter. The nickname does not speak for himself. Friendly, gentle, helpful. Not the stereotype of a street warrior don’t you think?
Pawn Riot. He volunteered to play the forum and most probably he will score. I am waiting for his analysis on this game.
Here comes TONY. He produces tons of analysis material on a single game. I wouldn’t like to cross pawns with him. He would make me very nervous by making me think every possible line on every possible move. That would destroy the tranquillising effects of chess in my mind. I hope that he and PAWN RIOT grant me the copyright license to exploit their analysis on the forum game (and of course I will get the benefits)π
And here comes my two favourites.
robbie carrobie. I wouldn’t bestow the honour of calling this marvellous chap truly great unless:
1. He sincerely repents and cleanse himself in the calm (calm π² ) waters of the Najdorf/Scheveningen Sicilian.
2. He exorcises any French Demon from his mind.
3. When he publicly states that the natural thing for the White King’s pawn is not to be played at the first move and not to land on e4 of course.
black beetle. He is Greek. Everyone who is acquainted with postmodern Greeks knows for sure that I am not going to spare any nice word for another Greek. Especially if this particular guy has kicked my a$$ twice and most probably is going to do that again if he finds the chance. Enough said.
Thank you Paul for launching this thread. You and all the other guys have referred to some truly great guys. It is always nice for the rest of us to recognise the real remarkable ones.

Originally posted by Ulysses72such kind words for a pathetic patzer is surely reminiscent of the nobility and virtue embodied in the spirit of the Ancient Athenians, of which both Beetle and Ulysses are the progeny! and reflective of the all inclusiveness and spirit of the immortal game. to these individual I am not only eternally thankful, but amazed, that they have taken the time, yes, their precious time, to educate with the utmost patience a hopeless patzer. there has not been a few occasions, when pride at the hands of a loss has threatened to engulf me in self pity and like Icarus i have spiraled downwards into despondency, yet without affectation, Ulysses has managed, with kind and practical words to lift the spirit!

To Beetle I owe that most precious of chess gifts, objectivity and evaluation of the mind not to mention endless hours of top notch entertainment, my subscription and a few bottles of the amber nectar of the north, Skoosh in the form of Barrs iron Bru, our other national drink! and finally i must mention Mr. Paulbuchmanfromfics, who never tired of the questions, who did not care that i was rated four hundred points less, who even revealed his plans during the games in the hope that it would lead to understanding, is it not awesome to behold!
Like Ulysses, i thank Paul for this thread, for to be sure, the attraction of this game least of all is not crushing or being crushed, although winning is fun and losing is not, but its in the nobility, of standing toe to toe with ones adversary, where truth is paramount, and as Fischer states in the foreword to his book, quoting Lasker, , ' where lies and hypocrisy do not last very long'. I bow to you all - best regards Robbie, (son of a thousand opening traps, usually set by his opponent!)

It is very surprising that no one mentioned you, so I'll definitely do it.
Exigentsky came in to the chess forum (if I remember correctly) with some opening questions, mostly related and pertaining to his own analysis using books, databases, and engines, trying in essence to search for the truth in a couple of critical lines. This got my respect immediately, since this is in the same vein to what I do all the time.
Since then I think he's gotten stronger as a player and a poster, and certainly matured chesswise. His posts are always serious, insightful, and full of content. He's also an active poster on ChessPub, my other forum hangout. He's a fellow theory-nerd, so I'll always have respect for him.
PS - I've also played him in some blitz games. He's no slouch. π
