My first game with a GM was Tal Shaked. I played a Torre Attack, like I could stun a GM with that. He naturally ripped me apart. That was only time I have ever played a GM. I have beaten a ton of masters and Woman IM's at FICS though. I even have a scalp with the Latvian Gambit in my notebook. 🙂

I knew Wilf Pratten quite well as he was still an active member of Fareham Chess Club when I joined around 1979 / 1980. He was a nice guy and still a very strong player even then, when he must have been over 70. He was British under 18 Champion in 1924 and 1925.
His famous game against Maczynski is great fun, with Black sacrificing both rooks and his queen!
