Have you ever felt guilty beating someone rated (much) lower than you? I feel bad in this (ONGOING!!) tournament game...(S)he's probably just inexperienced...I don't particularly enjoy playing lower rated players, but take a look...(ONGOING!!)

Originally posted by wittywonkaYeah, I feel bad when I stomp someone lower than me. There is no real honor in beating someone weaker than you, you know?

Originally posted by wittywonkaNothing to feel bad about. I'd love to play Kasparovm even though I'm sure he'd beat me, because I'd learn something. I'm pleased if a much better player is willing to play me, even though (s)he's likely to beat me. That's how you get better.

I was starting to have that feeling once, not too much (there is no mercy in chess) and then the girl started crying...and i felt kinda bad (still beat her badly) when I checkmated her on the 10th move. Oddly enough she was rated about 1400 and (i was 1320 at the time) she seemed to do well for the rest of thr tourny, maybe something happened before the match, or maybe im just too gorgiously distracting to play well against, and she was simply crying cause I was going away... who knows

Originally posted by wittywonkaNot really because in the past I have been guilty of not paying enough attention in this sort of game (i.e. moving too quickly to allocate more time to deal with higher rated opponnets in the same tournament) but sometimes have ended up blundering a piece away then have to spend a ridicleous amount of time planning and scheming my way back into the game. I suppose it's the first rule of chess 'don't under estimate your opponent'.

Edit: although looking at your opponent there is a huge rating difference, so I can imagine it almost feels like you are carrying out an execution.
