I was white. It is not easy to see that white has a mate-in-x moves

Reason he offered the draw was because you had an easy 3 fold repetition on F6 with the Queen.

I thought it was that, but if you run it over with a computer, it is a mate in 6 for white
  7. 19 Oct '06 10:01
Does it start with Qe5+ rather than the obvious Qf6+? The reason being that Qe5 leaves f6 free for a knight check.

    1. Qe5+ Kh6 (Kf8 is easy)
    2. Rxg6+! hxg6
    3. Qh8
  9. 19 Oct '06 11:32
    actually its mate in 8

    1.Qe5+ Kg8!
    2.Nf6+ Kh8!
    3.Ng4+!! Kg8
    4.Qe6+ Kh8
    5.Qf6+ Kg8
    6.Nh6+! Bxh6
    7.Rd8+ Bf8
    8.Rxf8#

what does the computer say about my line?
    (or did you set it up for 1.Qf6+? Kh6?? which yields 2.Qxf8+ Kh5 3.Ng3+ Kg4 4.h3+ Kg5 5.Qf6+ Kh6 6.Nxf5+ Kh5 7.Qh4# )

hold on you were WHITE???????? how did you not at least try to play Qf6+ thats terrible

instead of the pawn taking the rook, couldn't the king do it?

After Qf6+ Kg8 it's very clear that White has to take the draw. Black has a threat or two of his own!

well he can always play Qe6+ and go back to the same position. he should at least try Qf6

i'm not expecting advanced tactics i'm saying at least play Qf6 and look at the position again. it might have helped him figure out Qe5
and the draw was not going anywhere. here didn't even TRY and thats my point.
