It wasn't the opening that lost the game it was the fact that you have a 350 point higher rating๐Ÿ˜‰

5.c3? would only promote the move 5...d4! as black...the posistion is opening up in blacks favor.

    After 5..d4 then 6.d3! dxe3 7.Bxe3 Bxe3 8.Kxe3, then white has a decent position.

How does white have a decent posistion when his king is on e3 before the middle game starts? Black has a few moves to choose from...most notable being my favorite Nh6...white is still cramped up..and white will have to spend yet another tempo to get his king out of the way..thereby giving black yet another boost in the game... White doesn't have a lost game yet..but they're on the verge of having one.

Im seriously considering using this opening for all my CC games as well๐Ÿ˜›
I know this opening as "The Drunken King" or a variation of it. I have played several games with it and have about 33-67% winning rate. It is fun to play though.

You underestimate it ๐Ÿ™‚. You should join the Hammerschlag thematic tournament, then you can see how good it is.

I can appreciate it could be a good psychological weapon in blitz.

But objectively it is a weak opening and harly a good choice in correspondence chess.

As White, you can use the Hammerschlag move order to play a Reversed Fred.

I've been playing the Hammerschlag again and again - i can't seem to get enough of the funky opening. I bet i've played 10+ rated games with it and my results have been pretty good - only a couple losses.
It always leads to interesting games and takes the opponent by surprise.
