The former World Chess champions Birthday is today!
Hes 64 I believe.
He will not thank you for that.
Nobody has ever beat him since he won the championship. He won the return match with Spassky.
True he's too scared to play me but one day......
It's really sad to see such a great chess player rotting away in frigid Iceland after such a stellar chess career. He did a lot for the game and despite his political views and other controversial issues, he should still be known as one of the best, if not the the best, US chess champions of all time.
Originally posted by petrosianpupilDon't get me wrong, I greatly admire Bobby's chess skill. He's probably still very strong, even though we'll probably never know for sure. But he refused to play Karpov in '75. To avoid having his WC title stripped from him, he actually renounced his title. Concerning his "rematch" with Spassky in '92, Spassky wasn't the reigning WC at the time. So, yes, Bobby is actually a former world champion, even if you hate to admit it.
