I am looking for a good list of chess books to buy. Right now I only have Winning Chess Openings and Winning Chess Endings by Yasser Seirawan. The openings book only has king and queen pawn openings and defenses. I'm thinking that I may need another opening book... Anyone know of about five of what you consider to be good books?
Thanks a million 😀

A tactics book would probably help as well. Winning Chess Tactics, Sierwan & Silman?
A basic endgame books as well Essential Chess Endings Move by Move Vol 1 by Silman?
Others may have better suggestions for the above basic books, but I personally find Silman a very readable chess author.

Great list!

If you want you can always look at getting Chessbase 9 and either an opening database or just some lessons. There are a whole range of lessons from a particular opening to midgame tactics to learning endgames. I find them very useful, much easier to search and find what you want when it's on the computer.
I love my opening encyclopedia.
Maybe consider:
Chess: The Complete Self Tutor by Lasker.
I don't know about you, but I used to play those adventure books when I was a kid. You know the ones, where you either slay the dragon (turn to page X) or marry the magic hobit (turn page Y). Well this book is similar (without the hobits). Lasker sets the questions and you decide which is best. If you chose incorrectly he explains why and you try again.
Chess Endings by Yuri Averbakh.
A great book on endings which isn't 4 inches thick. Apparently all the greats were masters of the end game. This book will certainly get you off and running.
Tony Miles: 'It's Only Me'
Great book, great stories, great chess from England's first GM - nuff said.
