this bites my interest as learning to play d4. does anyone have the book and if so what are the chapters or just show me the index if you would.
Play the Queen's Gambit gives an agreesive repertoire and it's easy to get through - I got it on Chessbase CD. I recommend it.

Well said! I normally always play the Dutch against D-4. I found the Queens pawn openings rather boring. Of course in my humble opinion that is. Of couse, I did come out on the losing end of an anti-dutch move, which I was never able to fully counter.

d4 may be boring but i'm broadening my understanding of the game. don't you hate it when your opponent has a better position than you throughout the whole game and you lose!! thanks cms i'll check that book out. lots of choices to look at. whats so good about chessbase? ive never used it.

Attacking with d4! and Play d4.... are both interesting books. The first is more aggressive. Hans Berliner - The System is also informative. Just let me know if you want more info on them.

play the queens gambit and ideas behind modern chess openings are both of these about playing a reperatoire of d4? if so what are the variations covered if you wouldn't mind. last time i bought a book on a d4 line i wasn't too excited.

Well, you just run it through Fritz, it's nice because you don't have to set a board up or anything.

lepomis mentioned "Attacking with 1 d4" by IM Angus Dunnington. This is a repertoire book.

The book received a good review from British Chess Magazine.

IM John Donaldson gave it a fair review

IM John Watson gave it a not-so-wonderful review.

Chyss Chess gave it a poor review but gave "Play 1. d4!" by Richard Palliser a very good review.

And Randy Bauer (I think he's an NM) also gave Palliser's book a good review.

I'm not the biggest Gary Lane fan either, but he's competent enough not to totally screw up an opening book advocating a pretty simple repertoire.

i think i've made up my mind on d4. i realized how many different ways d4 can go about with the kind of opening i want to learn. i feel that these books will give me a better understanding of d4 winning pawn structures, play the queens gambit, and play the nimzo indian. thanks for helping me out
