Chris Ward - Play the Queen's Gambit - A nice, aggressive repetoire against 1..d5, you will have to find some other material on 1..Nf6 and the other, lesser played responses though.
If you're interested in the Trompovsky: 1d4...Nf6, 2. Bg5 then Peter Wells book is very good. The Trompovsky prevents the Nimzo Indian, Kings Indian and Queens Indian and Grunfeld etc. - here's a taster from Peter Wells book: 1d4...Nf6, 2.Bg5...Ne4, 3.Bf4...c5, 4. f3...Qa5+, 5.c3...Nf6, 6.Nd2...cxd4, 7.Nb3...Qb6, 8. Qxd4...Nc6, 9.Qxb6...axb6, 10. Nd4...e5, 11. Nxc6

i want to learn to play d4 openings and have a complete reperaroire ( i'm a terrible speller) for playing d4 as white. what are some books that might help me learn to play them good and understand the ideas behind d4?
Lane recommends 1 d4 2 Nf3 3 Bf4 against most Black defenses.
Originally posted by gaychessplayerI think if Lane recommends the London System, that's a pretty good reason to never open that book, or come within a ten foot radius.

Originally posted by kmac27still sounds like you should at least take a look at the baburin book. it doesn't concentrate on any particular d4-lines, but instead the common structures that arise from them. I think it's an excellent book for understanding d4 openings.
for me to gat an idea about the opening all i need are the moves and the ideas behind the opening. pawn breaks and important squares and some examples help. i learn fast.
isn't that one on only isolated d pawn structure? i will concider that in the future i want to find a book that helps me with the ideas behind the indian for black and white. i want to learn to play it from both sides. will i have to buy a book on the bogo indian and a seperate for the nimzo indian? or is there a book that discusses the basic play for both?

Learn 3-5 moves in the most common lines i.e. QGD, QGA, Slav, Benoni then play lots of blitz.
Just play 10 games against each response with a 1/7 time limit either in tournaments or issue open invites. After 10 games you should analyse them using say Fritz to find improvements and play 10 more using those improvements so so on until you are invincible because you have a unique database of every possible move.
P.S. This seems to work for me with 1. g4!!
