Of all the pieces (and pawns) it seems to me that the one chosen to represent chess the most is the knight. Is that an official thing or just because the knight is such an easy piece to distinguish?
It has an aura of chivalry and knighthood.That probably makes it the most appealing piece.
When people see the knight they think 'chess',when they see another piece they think 'what's this?'
