forgive me if this has been done before, but someone pointed out to me the other day that chess is racist because white always goes first..! does anyone know the history of why white always goes first... i for one have never liked this idea, surely it should be a flip of a coin that decides the starting colour

Isn't chess sexist?
It is always the king that is to be protected. The queen can always be excanged or even sacrificed, only to keep the king alive.

But racist?
Well, the black king is equally well protected as the white one...

Some people are always looking for racism where there is none. They are obsessed with the idea of differences in the races and come up with BS like this.

I think we should take those postings as humorous. Noone really thinks that chess is racist, sexist or homophobic. I think...(?)

going by the history of chess it is not racist as it wasn't the white europeans who invented it, that credit goes to india or china... anyone know for sure..?

Would this be the Africa which contains countries where most of the hotels are run by white people but employ black people?

Racism is never simply black and white I'm afraid. It exists to some extent everywhere that races live alongside each other sadly.
