hi if i pray to God and ask him to help me find good moves and he communes with me not directly, but gives me a spirit of wisdom, is that third party assistance - kind regards in advance Robbie.

take it to the spirituality forum if you dare! muhhhahaa (evil laugh), so you think its technically third part assistance, mmmm, what about people who are gifted, i mean, they did not make their gifts, they received them, either from nature or somewhere else, could you not cite nature as third party assistance.

The assertion of cheating itself would be based on mythological evidence, so...

The answer is 'No'.

Because He would not take sides.

Whatever God it is you believe in, all created us as equals.

So giving chess adivce to one would not make it fair on the other,
it would be unequal.

However, if you find yourself playing for your soul v Satan then the
Big Fellah might offer some assistance.

He loves it when you check the Devil's King with a Bishop.

The Devil gooes potty when that happens.
Apparently you can hear the bellowing all over Hell.

I heard that the Devil never considers underpromotions, especially not to bishops.

lol, all very funny, but alas the green pawn dude is right, God is not partial, never the less, Fischer, arguably one of the greatest chess players of all time had more than a passing interest in Biblical subjects and would often read or listen to readings of scripture on the radio. Perhaps he found solace or sought help for some personal issues, i dont know, never the less, the fact that he got seriously financially ripped off by his church of choice seems not to have diminished his love of reading scripture. It really makes me wonder.

I asked a friend who lives in a mental asylum. He says he talks with god every day. Sometimes he even thinks he is god. But he is a lousy chess player. No god is not there for chess players. God doesn't hear prayers from chess players.

I'd prefer to listen to the advice of the ghost of Steinitz.

If we were all created as equals, we'd all have the same intellegence and abilities. People are obviously unequal.

You can pray, but whether you will receive the divine moves are unclear.
Having said that, I have sometiems had a game which I have been working very hard on and left the position overnight and had dreams about it, and found some nice creative stuff which I can bring back to the board. So maybe just sometimes...
