i mean, it's wrong, we all know that, but think about it, anyone who cheats is gonna get bored pretty soon; cheaters take up way too much time for rhp admins who have to go through all their games to find a computer assisted pattern so that they can ban them; cheaters will only get banned then sign up again; even though they may have cheated against you, it can't do your game (only your points) any harm, it can only help you become a better player, and finally, i cant think of anything more boring than merely copying a engine with its moves, there has to be a time when cheaters get so bored with this idea they simply give up; or they get to 2500+ and start to question what was the point of it all...

The evidence suggests that cheaters do not get bored, some play for years before they are banned. I believe that they think of themselves as "centaurs", i.e. they and their engine partner up to defeat their common opponent. Perhaps the human plays the first few moves and then allows the engine to take over, or perhaps the human plays until he's bolloxed up the position and then uses the engine to rescue him.

I certainly wouldn't be interested in playing on a site where engine use was allowed, the main point of me being here is to improve my OTB chess, and losing to monkeys running Fritz on their PCs isn't going to do that.

I disagree - playing against computer can help you improve your play, like playing against stronger human opponent.

P.S. Anyway - using engine is not honest against your opponent who is not using engine and thinking that he is playing against human.

I would have no problem with computers playing here --- so long as even before you started the game you knew you were playing one.

But the cheaters don't use an engine for all moves, do they? Only when they are under to turn the game to their advantage or difficult moves or to assert they stand better or something? Not every move...? Like asking daddy for advice when needed?

You should ask cheaters to tell you the way how are they cheating 😀

In my opinion it depends on their chess strength. Weak player will trust engine more, than stronger one.

Is Fritz the only chess engine cheaters use?

I remember getting Chess for a 48K Spectrum.

I played it a few times and never bother agai, it was such a patzer. Its amazing now to this they could fit that into 48K let alone 1K. They probably use more than 48K just to render a single piece.

48k, that takes me back... the credit has to go to the game writers who made some classics for the spectrum & all they had 2 play with was the memory equivalent to a large email..!
