Anyone who has studied psychology will remember the encoding specifity principle. Basically what you learn, where you learn it, when you learn it your emotions that you had when learning material and also are all tied into memory. Any substance that alters the bodies state can help remember things such as nicotine, narcotics, cafine and other substances as well. So to your smoking thing, take that! Then again caffine may not help you in a game if you cant sit still for long periods of time. Even chewing gum can help if you study when chewing gum. It will be to anyones benefit to do the same things they were doing when they studied as when they play.

Heres a sight that gives a a good example. http://changingminds.org/explanations/memory/encoding_specificity.htm

The next day the don`t remember being smashed to the ground by me, they think they played good.

I've found that a glass or two will help me get out of an online blitz losing streak, but the third glass is another matter.

In my opinion, there is no drug which can give a player a winning advantage. Bring it on.
I agree...I don't know why this subject is even discussed.😏

Au contraire, Attila. Two years ago I was on chess / jack daniels party. I was convinced that I was the best chessist there but I played shy and passive. So I didn't score very well. After I drank quater of a bottle in one shot I became more agressive, tempo gaining, I didn't even want to spend my tempos on slow things like castling the king.

I started to talk loud mouth and I was killing them with forks and checkmates, one after another, while trash talking; "What yer gonna do with that lousy queen ?", "My lady with escort that pawn so there will be to ladies against your poor one", "1. d4 ?, Faggot".

Maybe it was coincidence, though.

I experimented with chess and a large amount of hallucinogens one ill-advised day in my youth, and I won every game I played that day. And I played dozens.
