I'm just really happy that I got a chess tutor that is going to teach me stuff for FREE!!! He has a USCF rating of 1900 and just wants to help. We're playing in the Corpus Christi Team Championship this weekend. Right now I'm provisional 1417 after 9 games but with his help I hope to be at nonprov. 1600 by the end of the year. He has had 15 students win state titles in their grades division so he has some good credits under his belt. I showed him RHP and he is thinkin about joining...
i met him at a tournament this past friday. I got 1st but i didnt even play the 2 highest players in the tourney. well, i tied for first
1. me - p1313 4.0
2. paul haney - 1972 4.0
3. james shaw - 1845 3.0
...
he didnt play in it, he was just there and after the tourney he told me he wanted to help me and gave me his number. lol, weird but he's given me a lot of tips already.

Originally posted by cmsMasterlol, im afraid you may be right and yes, it was a swiss tourney actually. i was 3rd bored, i thought for sure i would play one of them. lol, i got some easy games really. i played one like 1200 player and one that was 1150 and 2 others round 1000...hehe, they played each other in the last round so i never got the chance. i've played james shaw before and and yesterday at half-price books. i got beat both times but it was fun and a learning exp.

Originally posted by cmsMasterThere are about 10 - 15 people every evening monday through friday that meet up there and play against each other. they bring there own and just hang out and play. most of them are actually pretty good, ive only been once but some of the players i played handed it to me pretty good and im ok myself.

he's just not one of us negative nonconstructive bunch of 1500's like you and me...
Maybe my 1600 advice would be meaniful then, maybe.
Originally posted by RahimKonly six days offline, but the heebie jeebies almost did me in. 🙂 didn't even get that ct-art yet, they were out of stock (as I learned today when I checked email), and said it'll be 3-4 weeks... got 40 pages of babarin's winning pawn structure studied though, 17 games so far. it's pretty dense, but I plan to keep on it until I get it done...

and nobody timed me out, two tournament games were even resigned. (edit: hey, I'm leading my group by 1 point! 😀 although red house has 3 unfinished games against my 2...) maybe I'll start a thread about "how to get to 1683 doing nothing!" 😛
but now I think I'll start a couple of new games! 🙂
