Game 3591264

What are some viable defenses to the 3. Bc4 move? As you can see I got a playable game, but I just wasn't happy about giving up the center like that. I'm looking mainly for accepted lines, but I would consider the declined version if someone made a convincing argument.

There is no defense against someone rated 2152.

4...Nc6 is known to be quite good for white. More often played these days, and probably better, is 4...c6

Agree. 4...c6 with idea of 5..d5.
3...Qh4+ 4.Kf1 d5 is also possible

Wow, I've got all the big guys responding. Thanks for the ideas. I will try out 4... c6 next time the issue arises. I used to play the gambit as white and the Qh4+ is the line I liked the best, so I think I will avoid that idea although the d5 sac does make more interesting.

I think the toughest line is:

1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Bc4 d5 4.exd5 (4.Bxd5 Nf6 is the main alternative) 4...Qh5+!

The line that Northern Lad gave is generally accepted as the mainline defense against it, but I think less difficult for white.

Oops, yeah, Korch gave the line with a different move order.
