Well, eleven games have been played, only three were decisive so far. the pundits who predicted this would be a draw fest were correct. Neither of these guys deserves to be world champion. I think the world needs someone who fights for every game. It's the best thing for chess. I guess all the draw afficionados are having a ball playing over all these short draws and musing over what might have been.

I dont like it, I really think there should be a neutral party that call draws in a match of this caliber. I liked that last game Leko won 7?

How would you decide that they were "neutral"? How would you convince the world? Besides, you try playing a game against someone rated 2000+. Believe me, you'll fight for that draw...

I know this would be next to impossible, Ihave no idea what it would be like to play at this level. Is this typical for matches of this magnitude?

Karpov and Kasparov have played 231 games together (in this database), and 176 of them are draws.

I think it's basically ridiculous for players at our level to say that someone isn't deserving of the championship because of his draws. We have the luxury of sitting here and complaining about "boring play," without any idea what it would be like to fight a super-GM for every half-point. Think of the sheer brilliance needed to wangle a draw against a Kramnik or a Leko-- if you can. I can't-- it's beyond my power to conceptualize. So as far as I'm concerned, they are entitled to admiration no matter what.

I am not saying that Kramnik or Leko aren't brilliant in chess. I am saying they don't have the courage, stamina, "guts," whatever you want to call it to be world champions. Unfortunately chess is the only sport which allows these ridiculous early draws. Can you imagine two boxers whispering to each other in the second round, "Say, I'm feeling a little tired, how about you and I calling it a draw for the day? All these spectators can come back to watch us when we feel really feel like fighting." Let's not be fooled into thinking these guys are so brilliant, mere mortals like ourselves cannot imagine what's going on in their heads. Players like Fischer, Tal, Kasparov (when he feels like it) made chess a great spectator sport. Kramnik and Leko will drive it back into the dusty back rooms of old men and social outcasts. I myself enjoy the games of kids, like Magnus Carlsen or a Yakamura. They may not be as good as Leko or Kramnik yet, but they show great promise, they fight and are great fun to watch.

Just look at a former World Champion like Petrosian. He had a lackluster tournament career, but in match play he was nearly unbeatable because of his style of play. I don't think anyone would dare say he wasn't deserving of being called World Champion. Of course, he's not exciting or flashy, so many people have just passed up examining his games altogether, which is a shame, because they are real gems.

Interesting enough: Petrosyan had more tactical style in his early years. And this applies to Kramnik too.

There's a fairly substantial finanical prize at the end of this show as well. So to say that fans cannot be critical is unsound as in all competition opinions resound if you like play that ends in draw.....
I wish for more fight I guess....imho which you can disagree with it seemed that GM commentators did also see other choices throughout this match

What makes you think they did not fight for most games?

These are different times though, my friends. Each player is not just a player but a preparation team armed with the latest computer programs and extensive lines of prepared moves. You can tell these guys are just robots now when every time Kramink opens, its ends up Spanish...I found it refreshing though that Leko can open with either King or Queen pawn.

Not to be a butt, but this is a selfish point of view. You are disapointed at their draws, because you don't want them. For them, their play is super correct, and they would rather save their energy for a different game, where there are chances for both sides. They have to consider not only how they play now, but on the next games. Leko and Kramnik are substantially older than Carlsen and Nakamura. Hell, I agree that I would like to see a good ole' fashion barn burning, castling opposite sides, duke out in the King's Indian or Sicilian or some crazy line game. In fact, my favorite player is Bent Larsen, known as one of the best fighting players in the game, but I fully understand draws in the games played in long, one on one matches. For these men, it isn't entertainment, it's really their job when it boils down to it. If they go for complications and a buddy2 style game, and it's not that great of a move, they know they are gonna get their skulls crushed by the other, so they wait. Look at it this way: those draws are their subtle way of making those exciting ones even more exciting. 🙂 I didn't mean for this post to be an attack in any way so just keep that in mind when you read this. I don't want this turning into some name calling contest. Thanks for reading.

The positions are drawn because they are draws, two of the best players in the world agree that any move will weaken their positions, bloody boring i know. They have produced one gem tho :-)

Some of my favourite and most exciting games on rhp have been draws.

I think we are probably not good enough to appreciate the draws between these two great players.
