Hello All,
Perhaps another post within the "best player ever" series posts brought this to mind. Is it true that Kramnik will not play for the title because he is trying to be something other than competitive. I don't know what to label him as: stingy, scared, snobby, strict, normal? Does anyone else have more information on Kramnik's attitude when it comes to playing for the World Title? Secondly, what happened with the 128-Knockout winner playing Kasparov and Kramnik playing Leko leading to the 2 finalists playing each other for the world title? Lastly, why did all the high rated GMs like V. Anand not play in the 128 player knockout tournament?

Apparently, the World Championship match between Topalov and Kramnik may happen; 12 games, starting Sept. 21. But I'll only believe it when I see it.

Yowsah! so passoionate. No offense, but other than a few instances (death or Fischer refusing to play) people have always won the title by beating the current champion in a match. When Toppy does that, then I'll consider him a true champion. The key thing about matches is that you constantly have to improve/adjust to your opponents style, the more versatile/creative person at the board should win. Having one improvement that your fritz came up with after 20 weeks of analysis doesn't cut it anymore.

Kramnik is the best there ever was. Just look at the popularity of the Sicilian Sveshnikov today, as well as the Berlin defense. Kramnik played the Sveshnikov when others were afraid to, and he revived the Berlin when he grew weary of it. You may despise Kramnik, but you must see how many of the top GMs are imitating his play.

Topalov's style is better for chess, the game needs a WC who is intresting to watch.

12 games is not enough for a world championship match...

What happened to the traditional 24 games???

I cant imagine Karpov and Kasparov's classical encounters being only 12 games!!!

Kramnik is no where near the player Topalov is at present. I just don't believe it.

Plus, Topalov looks like a World Chess Champion with his penetrating eyes. Plus, at least we finally have a Bulgarian (anything other than a Russian) holding the title. Bulgarians are for more romantic than Russians. When I think Bulgarian, I think vampires and seduction. When I think Russians, I think of the words, "I must break you!" HAHA

They should have world championship tournaments every 4 years where anyone can enter.... (it could be during the olympics!!!) And then the wussey world champions can't avoid the match in hopes of extending their title...
