This system can be played against anything and is very flexible. The usual plan is Ne5 then a Qf3 and attack attack attack on the kingside. I was wondering what your opinions were on this opening.

It's decent. More fun than the Colle, and more versatile too.

Marginally more fun than moving all your pieces backwards, but only just.

Its very safe system - very useful when you dont want to risk. I hate to play against it.

Man, for all those people who said this opening was passive. I will agree for a time it is, but black has to play VERY accurate or it will blow open like a volcanoe. I must reccomend if you want to play this system buy "Win with the London System." It gives some new ideas and shows you that you can play the London against anything. It also suggests

d4 d5
Bf4!?

Not in CC but in OTB this could easily throw people off.

I think I may have finally found my "pet white opening".

I've been playing the London System for over twenty years. Black can't really take White out of the system unless he plays something really weird like 1...h6 and 2...g5.

Even though some people call the London "The Boring System", if White wants to mix things up and play a tactical melee, he certainly can do so.

I wouldn't say it's better than the Colle System (1 d4 2 Nf3 3 e3 4 Bd3), but the London can be played against any normal defense. The Colle doesn't work well against a kingside fianchetto or a Dutch setup.

It's about as lame as things get. There's only one right way to play 1.d4 and that's 1.d4 (about anything) 2.c4!!

Whenever someone says of an opening played my Masters and even World Champions that "it's about as lame as things get" you can be assured that whoever made that remark is either very ignorant or very obnoxious.

Or both!

Honestly though, it does confuse me why masters would play an opening that doesn't offer white nearly as many chances as the mainline 1.d4 2.c4 stuff.

GMs play safe lines that try for advantage (or equality when black) so you usually don't see GM KIA or Colle games which don't try too hard for white.

don't worry cms, you're not a GM, so you keep playing with that KG

ok, wth is wrong with you!?😠

That's even more pathetic (as in less exciting...for all those touchy d4 players...) than my 4. g3 Four Knights, at least that's an open game!

Uh, IDK what you're thinking, but !~Tony~! taught me some sick ways to play 1.d4. Not boring at all.
