he said his chess sucked, yet they were all FIDE or GMs

The guy on the 9th board was the exception to the rest, he apparantly was rated around 2200, I suspect the trick hinged on finding someone who could be bribed to loss a game against him, which is why I think this guy was only (in comparison to the others I mean) rated around 2200 because he was probably the best corrupt player (with some sort of title i.e. president of the chess society, kings college, london) he could find.
