Does anyone know what happened to the following English chess players?
1) Edward Holland
2) Emilia Holland
3) Mandy Hepworth
4) Cathy Haslinger
5) James Cavendish
All of these players got to a pretty high standard, but as far as I can tell they all gave up competitive chess.

Originally posted by Northern LadI remeber playing one of the Haslingers, Toby I think, in a congress many years ago.........I I remeber is that he didn't smile much and had a weak almost non existent handshake!

Originally posted by Northern LadI read an article about Stewart recently, talking about how he'd been laid up in hospital for a couple of years and how this had improved his chess enormously. At the time I remembered playing a few games against him, but now I realise it was his older brother, Gareth, who I played.

Originally posted by Fat LadyI have in fact in the past been captain of a team with Stewart Haslinger in it. Though of course there are benefits to spending so much time in hospital in terms of being able to work on your game, I can assure you that the nature of his illness was a considerable disadvantage to him in OTB chess, which make his achievements all the more impressive. I believe his health has improved somewhat in recent years, but as far as I'm aware he still needs fairly constant supervision.

The post that was quoted here has been removedJokes do exist but I wouldn't joke about something like that as her family/friends are likely to be playing on RHP/read the forums. People read these forums, do you know how many kibbitzers I've had who are GMs watching my games on PlayChess due to the comments I've made in these forums?
