Do anyone here play the Morden Defence? You Do?! Great! Do you play the Morden whith a6? you Dont know that? Well its after the moves: 1. e4 g6 (The Morden) 2. d4 (The best) Bg7 3. Knc3 (Most Popular) d6 4. (Here he can play: f4, Be3, Knf3, g3, Bg5 and a lot more!! If he plays f4, Be3, Knf3, Bg5 or g3 then we play...) 4... a6!
Whith the idea of expanding on the Queenside wiht b5 then Knd7 followed by c5, Bb7 threatning b4 winning the pawn on e4. What about c5 you may ask! Why play c5? Well we havent developed The horse (or Kn) on f6 right! We havent put our king in safety!! We have to do that! but its all strategy! Leaving the horse there... after c5 the d4 pawn has to do some thing! letting go of e5 and then we dont have to worry about pawn to e5 hitting the horse and we can develop it in peace!! Its not so much books on the a6 system but its totaly sound!! if you want to learne more join my clan (Its new!) Just search on my name or answer this thread! See ya!

Originally posted by The black bishopWow! So you make 4 moves to pose a threat against the e4 pawn: a6, b5, Bb7 and b4 ! That's great, I think white can't and won't do anything about that!

Do you Really think that I do that just to win the pawn??? Theres alot more strategy involved!!! Its all about destroying Whites "Center".
And I know my clan is new... But you have to start sometme!
The point with a6 is also other things... if white takes his king to the quuen side its a good attacking move a6 b5 the Bishop on g7 does a great job c5 opens the c line rook to c 8 and c6 quuen to c7 and just drive over him!! (To Tell the truht I havent played it on "Red Hot Pawn" just yet but i will wen i get the chance! I play it in the "real" World)
Its all very Morden chess and very Complicated!! It isint the only Chess Road.. But its mine and Id like Som Comapny!!

Originally posted by The black bishopI didn't say mis-speaking, I said mis-spelled the Modern Defense.
mis-speaking morden i mean! What do you mean with that?
I put in morden opening in google and it came back
"do you mean Modern opening" So I think thats in fact what you
are referring to. If I am wrong, apologies in advance, also if I am
wrong, maybe I will learn something.
Originally posted by The black bishopI know. I just don't think that you can play all those moves directly in that order, I think that white will try to disrupt your plans before you've completed them, like c3 to cut off the diagonal a1-h8 for Bg7, or a4 to force the pawn on b5 to an answer, ( I don't think putting the knight on c3 is good for white.)

Originally posted by The black bishopMCO lists this as the Robatsch Defense, also known as the Modern Defense.
Well Maybe you are right but in all the books i read and all the books on the internet (with some exeptions) they call it the Morden Dafence but the morden opening maybe just as good.. i dont know...
Anyway i just call it the Morden!"😀
I don't think that you have a book that calls it 'Morden'. Not that it makes much difference. I think I'll call it the Nimrod Defense. After all, one man's opinion is as good as another - right??
😉
ok its like this it has many names but the players who plays it calls it the Morden becouse it takes to much time to say the Morden Defence or the Morden Opening. And About you who wanted to play c3 or a4 thats all been played! c3 is called the "Lazy" variation and havent given me any trouble! a4 is good... in some lines!
