The game was "well played"??? When White opened with 1.c3?! and then brought his queen out instead of developing his minor pieces?

No, the game was not well played (not to take anything away from your win, Freddy), but you need to look up some openings.

lol. He'll have a job finding an opening book on how to beat 1.c3 - M.C.O. mentions it in a footnote on the last page. It gives 1. ... d5 or 1. ... b6.

Looks like a couple masters just ignore it and play the dutch or king's indian against 1 e3. Saragossa opening I think.
