    Hi GP,
I read the blog, but sorry, I just don't get it. What the hell (you used the word, so I guess the precedent has been set) does Nancy Sinatra (Light My Fire?) have to do with anything you wrote in your blog? I see no connection at all. Please esplain, Ricky.

Dude, he said that was what he was listening to while writing it.

OK, I didn't bother skimming through the game comments... I usually just read the text of the blogs. Not fair actually forcing people to go through the games to understand all of the references.

No clue what a sockdolager is.

(And to Goshen, I don't see myself as a "Dude".

I don't like surfing the net for these things.
I prefer to hear it from a chess player.

I PM'd this guy User 384935 but no reply.

Sockdolager was much more popular in the 18th century than today.

Davy Crockett wrote that was once campaigning for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives and a constituent flatly told him that he wouldn't vote for him. "He handed me a sockdolager," wrote Crockett.

When John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln in Ford's theater as the President attended a comedy. Booth waited for a moment in the play when the laughter would be the loudest before firing the fatal shot. Booth as an actor, knew the line that would bring the loudest laughter.

The play was called "Our American Cousin."

The line that brought the most laughter was

"Well, I guess I know enough to turn you inside out, you sockdologising old man-trap."

OK, I went through the blog again, this time even looking at the games. Works much better that way - makes sense, but takes more time. I have an idea... next blog, put the entire blog contents in game annotations...

What scares me about this blog is:

    1) Why are you listening to Nancy Sinatra?

    2) I wasn't even aware that she had a "best of" recording. (The only Nancy S. song I've heard is "These Boots Are Made for Walking".

    I picked up a whole load of 60's CD's at a boot sale for a £5.00
Just working my through them. Sugar Town is good.

I wonder what that openining is really called.

Did a lot of wondering on that Blog......What is a Sockdolager/Sockdologer.
(cannot wait to use it in a game note).

I sit and wonder about a lot of things.
That is why they call me Wonder Boy.

I wonder why they called a DC comic super hero 'Wonder Boy'.

    I googled 'Wonder Boy.'

"He decided to use his superhuman abilities to fight the Nazis and crime in general. He had "the strength of a thousand men" and a girlfriend named Sally Benson.

    Wonderful.

The Kinks song 'Wonder Boy' is good.

"Sugartown" is good. I have that one too.

    Kinks ... "Well Respected Man"

    YouTube

Sang it all day at work yesterday and now everybody is singing it.

Frank Sinatra played chess. The song 'My Way' is all about a
guy losing a game of chess...listen to it.
