Thanks for your idea
I use the Morra as my weapon of choice as white as it gets black away from his well prepared lines although it is perhaps objectively not the most sound line for white.

It does get reasonable results however especially OTB and Game 3676033 is a typical example of how the Morra can get reasonable results against a strong opponent.

Is there anyone who is familiar to the Grand Prix attack? (1.e4 c5 2.f4)

Any hints about it?

Playing the Sicilian, I've faced it a few times and it always put me into troubles...

The problem with the 1 e4 c5 2 f4 move order is that Black is probably equal after 2...d5!. The true Grand Prix move order is 1 e4 c5 2 Nc3 d6 (or e6 or Nc6 or ???) 3 f4. I think that Lev Alburt's latest opening book, Chess Openings for White Explained, recommends the Grand Prix for White.

Tournament 3711 (GPA tourni - 1.e4...c5 2.f4)
Oops...
Not one I'll be entering as it isn't the preferred move order for White!

As mentioned however

After 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 a6

White will find it hard to play a GPA as his bishop cannot go to c4 or b5.

Pretty much every player I know who plays GPA OTB agrees this move order is a bit annoying for them.

I don't find it annoying at all..I come from a closed siclian background myself..so a6 only makes me want to play g3 followed by Bg2.. and a6 looks like a wasted move.

I have had this discussion before with a certain !~TONY~!

2...a6 is not realy too bad it depends on the strategy Black adopts

Yes if Black plays the normal g6, Bg7 plan it is but there are other ways to play against the Closed when a6 is a very useful move!!

For example 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 a6 3.g3 b5 4.Bg2 Bb7 5.d3 e6 6.f4 d5

I find it particularly useful to play it aginst players I know like to play the GPA.

I admit it is easier for White if he is either a Closed Sicilian player, or versitile/booked up enough to play the Closed Sicilian as well as the GPA lines too

And if your opponent attempts e5 then try 2. g4. Simple really.

As White playing E4, if my opponent trys the Sicilian, I just play D4 switching to the Smith-Morra gambit. Keeps it lively and takes your opponent out of their comfort zone. E4 is the best!

C'mon, it wasn't the opening that brought you a win there. Though 11. Ng5 was pretty neat.
