Originally posted by Dragon FireUse the shredder one. It is the best free one I have found so far.
I don't use these (yet) but it seems most players here do.
Can anyone advise which databases are best to use on RHP
Presumably a small annual subscription will be required but that is no problem if I start avoiding those redundant lines.
Originally posted by VarenkaThe game mods have stated very clearly, multiple times, that the use of endgame tablebases (regardless of what name they go under) is prohibited on RHP. There is no debate on this issue. Opening databases are OK, endgame databases/tablebases not OK.

Originally posted by BLReidI can see why an endgame TABLEbase is prohibited but why an endgame DATAbase? You could easily compile a database with all sorts of different endings(though I think you'd be better of with an endgame manual but that's besides the point). What's the difference with an opening database?

On the original topic of this thread. Why not create your own database?Search for games with the openings you play and pick the ones you think are most topical/instructional..
Originally posted by GorgarIf you can find endgame positions that have actually been played in a database, then that would be fine. What Varenka was referring to is a confusing little issue at the shredderchess website. They have an endgame tablebase online that they have kindly titled as an endgame database. The moves are all computer generated to be 100% accurate. Since they are computer generated, they are not allowed. It's pretty simple really, but some people are having a hard time with it. I do agree with his point that the TOS are not clear on the issue, but the game mods are very clear. As far as creating your own database, alot of players do that.

Originally posted by BLReidOh ok.Previously you said endgame databases/tablebases were not ok but you meant just tablebases. That's cool.

I did not start this to start the database / tablebase debate again.
Simply recommendations please on the best, permitted, databases.
I have no interest in the ones that breach the TOS nor does anyone else. It has been debated too many times. What I am interested in is what are the best databases that we are permitted to use and it seems there are a number of perfectly valid suggestions in the second posting. Thanks User 64903

EDIT- I really didn't want to get into the debate either, and I am sorry that I did. For the record, I do not in any way have a bad opinion of Varenka.

So, e.g., new member joins RHP today. Reads TOS. Agrees to obey TOS. Makes use of databases... any database... TOS does not specify otherwise.
You want to boot this new member? On what grounds? Failing to read the forums?
I knew it wasn't dead!
